The Tiger
The Tiger is known as a ferocious animal that is said to characterise the "Yang" qualities of fearlessness, courage and power. It has been called the strongest of the Shaolin Five Animals. It depends on strong finger-tips and thumbs for striking and clawing techniques. The movements were formed to develop bones, tendons and muscles. The application of Tiger places emphasis on strength and dynamic tension, hence movements and techniques are short, snappy and powerful. This power is generated through the shifting of weight and rotation of the waist. The tiger is so highly regarded for its qualities that it is employed in some manner in almost every style of Shaolin Kung Fu.
